I started in sales.
Here is what I want to share now.
In my twenties, I worked for a major jewelry trading company. It was a valuable introduction to the industry. Yet I was sometimes expected to sell pieces before I could fully explain the differences in craftsmanship and quality.
Two hundred thousand yen, three hundred thousand, sometimes half a million or a million. These were large sums to me too, and being unable to explain their value in my own words stayed with me.
I started my own business in my early thirties and began working on bespoke jewelry. My role has been to design how pieces are made, bridging the work of designers and craftspeople.
How can we bring an idea to life? How can beauty and practicality work together? Thinking through each question with the people making the jewelry is the foundation of my work today.
Even now that I understand what makes a piece good, expensive jewelry is still a significant purchase. That is why I want to explain what makes it special and why I recommend it, rather than simply saying it is good.
Would I recommend it to someone close to me?
This is the standard I use when introducing jewelry. I consider not only its appearance, but also its construction, comfort and price. As a maker, I choose pieces I would recommend to people I care about.
I share both the strengths and the things you should know before choosing. Then we can consider together whether a piece is right for you.
